Annotating a Structure

The steps below outline how to use the Elevation Module to create an annotated elevation drawing.

Before using the Elevation Module, please ensure the following:

  • You have a saved view referenced into a 2D model ready to annotate.
  • You have dimension and text styles available directly in the file, not just in the DGN.
Please note: We recommend reviewing your structures in the Elevation Module manager after installing or updating the Elevation Module to ensure everything is fully compatible and up to date.

Step 1: Click the 'Create' button in the 'Elevation Module' section of the Lineardraft toolbar

This will open the 'Create Elevation' window.

Step 2: Select the structure you want to annotate

You can do this by selecting the structure from the drop-down menu or using the locate button and clicking directly on the structure in your model.

Please note: You may need to use the Elevation Module Manager to rebuild your structure if you get a warning at this point.

Step 3: Choose your reference model from the drop-down menu

You may have multiple references in the same sheet (e.g front view, side view, top view), choose the one you want to add dimensions to.

Step 4: Click the 'New configuration' icon

Top tip: Save time and use a configuration template by clicking the 'Load configuration' icon. See how to create configuration templates here.

Step 5: Name your configuration (optional)

Giving your configuration a name means you'll be able to save it as a template to use in future.

Step 6: Select a 'Dimension style' and 'Text style' for your annotations from the drop-down menus

Step 7: Choose a level for your annotation to appear on from the drop-down menu

Step 8: Select your choice of annotations/dimensions to draw

Top tip: Once selected, save your configuration options as a template for future use by clicking the 'Save' icon.

Step 9: Click 'Draw'

Your annotations will be added to your model.

Step 10: Use native MicroStation tools to adjust annotations as necessary
