It is possible to override the wire length displayed in wire box annotations and JSON data. This is useful if you are working on a model that does not contain a complete wire run. Here's how it's done.
Step 1: Click the 'Edit' button in the 'Wires' section of the Lineardraft toolbar
This will open the 'Wire Selection' window.
Step 2: Select the wire you would like to edit and click 'Edit'
This can be done by either using the locate button and clicking directly on the wire, or searching for your chosen wire in the drop-down menu. This will open up the 'Edit Wire' window.
Step 3: Navigate to the 'Settings' tab in the 'Edit Wire' window
Step 4: Enable the 'Override lower/higher length' toggle
To learn more about what defines the lower and higher length of a wire, please see this article.
Please note: A wire length can only be overridden if it is not fully defined i.e. it does not have an anchored start and end point. If you are unable to override a wire length, please see this article.
Step 5: Enter your desired wire length in either the 'Delta' or 'Fixed' fields
As you make your changes, you'll see the value for 'Total length' and either the lower or higher lengths increase.
Delta: Represents the difference or additional length you would like to add to the wire. This means your end value will be the wire length as placed in the design plus the value given in this field. If the length of the wire changes in the design, your overridden wire length will adjust to account for this.
Fixed: Allows you to set a predetermined, fixed length for your wire. If changes are made to the wire length in the design, this fixed length will remain in the wire annotation boxes and JSON data.
Step 6: Click 'Update Wire'
This will save your changes and close the window. You'll see your new values appear in your wire annotation boxes.
